Objective: To investigate the characteristics of the internet addiction(IA) college students in using web.Methods: Nearly 2000 college students (including graduate students) were surveyed with questionnaires about Internet usage.Results: ①IA students always spent more time in web than non-IA students in all periods of the academic year.②All students spent less time in net in their holidays than non-holiday period and least in the winter vacation,but IA students’ time spent in web in the winter vacation was reduced even more than non-IA students.③Besides the campus dormitories,IA students preferred net clubs to their homes but non-IA students preferred homes to net clubs when they needed net.④IA-students had stronger motivation in meeting friends,self adjusting,self displaying or self shaping,but weaker motivation in studying and working than non-IA students did.Accordingly,IA students spent more time in chatting,writing and posting cards,playing games,browsing in the sex websites,being hackers in Internet than non-IA students did.Conclusion: The IA college students have their own characteristics in time spending,place selecting,motivation and actions in using web in contrast to the normal college students.
