Objective:To examine the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of the Revised Cheek and Buss Shy-ness Scale(RCBS). Methods:A sample of 845 university students in Shanghai completed the Chinese version of RCBS, the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale(SIAS), the Social Phobia Scale(SPS), the UCLA Loneliness Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI). Among the participants, 40 students completed the Chinese version of RCBS again five weeks later. Result:①The correlation between items and summary score ranged from 0.39 to 0.78; ②The exploratory factor analysis showed that RCBS consisted of two factors, accounting for 52.42% of the total variance; ③The confirmatory factor analysis also identified a two-factor model, χ2/df=3.25,CFI=0.95, TLI=0.94, RMSEA=0.05, SRMR=0.04; Multiple group analysis in-dicated strict measurement invariance across gender; ④The Cronbach α for the total scale and each factor were 0.88, 0.88 and 0.70, respectively; The test-retest reliability across 5 weeks for the total scale and each factor were 0.58, 0.62 and 0.41, respectively; ⑤The RCBS was significantly and positively associated with SIAS, SPS, UCLA and BDI. Conclusion:The Chinese version of RCBS can be used as an effective instrument to assess the shyness in Chinese university students.
