Objective:examine the mediating effects of affects and coping efficacies on the relationship betweendispositional optimism and life satisfaction,and to examine the cultural differences between Chinese and Japanese universitystudents.Methods:493 university Chinese and Japanese students were tested with questionnaires.Results:①The resultsindicated significant differences on psychological variables between Chinese and Japanese students,showing biggereffect size,Cohen’s d>0.5.②Life satisfaction positively correlated with optimistic orientation,positive affect and copingefficacy,but negatively with pessimistic orientation and negative affect,respectively.③Coping efficacies and affect styleshad partly mediated the relationship between optimistic orientation and life satisfaction,self-confidence degree and cognitionlevel fully mediated related pessimistic orientation and life satisfaction in Chinese students;self-confidence degree,cognition level and affect styles partly mediated the relationship between pessimistic orientation and life satisfaction inJapanese students.Conclusion:The models in which affects and coping efficacies affectivity mediate the link between lifesatisfaction and dispositional optimism,show different paths between different countries.
