Objective:document a typology of perfectionism in college students.Methods:175 college students respondedto the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale,Three-dimensional Perfectionism Scale,and Center for EpidemiologicStudies Depression Scale,the Self-Esteem Scale,and Positive and Negative Affect Scale.Results:A 2-stepcluster analysis of perfectionism scores revealed three clusters:Adaptive(high adaptive dimensions,low maladaptive dimensions),Maladaptive(high adaptive dimensions,high maladaptive dimensions),and Non-perfectionist(low adaptive dimensions,low maladaptive dimensions).Compared with maladaptive perfectionists,adaptive and non-perfectionists showedhigher positive psychological adjustment and lower negative psychological adjustment.Adaptive perfectionists reportedhigher positive affect than non -perfectionists.Conclusion:The results support existence of adaptive,maladaptive,andnon-perfectionists;adaptive perfectionists are the healthiest;maladaptive perfectionists evidence the poorest psychologicaladjustment of all the three clusters.
